New Poem: 'Sanctuary'
Updated: Apr 26, 2021
Sanctuary
You have to say, ‘thank you,’
or else all of this disappears:
the sunshine in the garden
the magnolia tree
just in bud, the feeling of freedom
blessed into the sky;
there is nothing you own
and nothing
that cannot be
taken or given in time’s
reaching way.
So you must begin to speak
with everything around you;
the way the spider’s web
touches, delicately,
the wall, the branch,
the wind. Luminously,
you extend a hand
to all you had ignored
and somehow
it touches you back.
